 Onion & Breadcrumb Burgers
"Everyone makes hamburgers", you say? maybe so, but are they good? Do they have great flavor? Are they juicy? Do they have no preservatives because they're homemade? If you can't answer "yes" to one or more of this questions, this burger recipe is for you.
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds of ground beef. Don't go leaner than the 80/20 blend else you'll have to add oil to the mixture
- 1/4 cup of chopped onion
- onion slices
- 1/2 tsp granulated garlic
- 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 day-old piece of bread, pulverized into crumbs,
-or- 1 cup bread crumbs
- 6 slices of cheddar cheese (optional)
- 1 sliced, tomato (optional)
- 3 leaves of Romaine lettuce (optional)
- Pickles (optional)
In a large bowl, combine all but the "optional" ingredients. Knead together with washed hands. Alternately, you can pull the same in a large zipper bag, seal the top, and kneed it together.
Shape the burgers into 6. Each should be slightly bigger than the palm of your hand. Set aside patties and pre-heat your grill, or grilling pan.
Once heated, put your burgers on the grill, cooking to 160F (medium or better). Only turn the burgers after they have sufficiently browned on the heated side, then place your cheese and onion atop the flipped burger (optionally) as the other side finishes. When done, get the burgers off the grill and place on the rolls, adding the condiments to taste.
Add some sides to this part of your meal, and you're a household star! |
